Let’s talk about the Divine Feminine
Happy Saturn Day ya’ll,
I hope that time is being kind to all of you today and you’re enjoying yourselves with every breath today.
Today I wanted to tackle the one topic I’m seeing get remixed, distorted, and lied on to death in these spiritual streets, and its the discussion of the divine feminine. I posted a video on the topic as a part of my Witchy Wisdom day on TMAT’s channel but my storage clocked out on me and I missed a few things. I’ll also post it below.
To be honest since the pandemic I’ve noticed that people like to sell an idea of “Divine Feminine Energy” making her this pretty and soft image, a soft spoken woman with a golden aura, that blesses you—even as you curse her. A woman with an overflow of grace and love amidst chaos, who bleeds empathy, and sheds tears at the riverside for our corrupted world in her fine gowns and beat face, while awaiting the arrival of her Divine Masculine to ride fierce at her side with his flame sword of protection and emotional validation. Her image has been promoted as the direct opposite of the “Dark Feminine” the evil, self-centered femme fetale, that will work a nigga into the ground, down to his very last dollar, then fuck all of his friends, and at least 3 bitches, then walk away from him with a belly full of his baby gravy, to make his ass miserable in tandem for the next 18 years, and ultimately he’s back going to her any way because, toxicity is the only way the divine masculine knows how to function. so he’ll always belong to her because who actually wants peace, when he’s always hard for problems?
neither of those descriptions are correct and are not worth the air it takes to recite that shit. The truth is the divine feminine and the dark feminine are the same! they are two sides of the same coin.
Kali Ma is a great example of this idea. Most times we see her in mainstream context we only see the face of the destroyer, but they don’t explain that this aspect of her is the carrier of divine justice, destroying demons that oppose goodness, and order (like the head in her hand). This aspect is also a visual representation of destroying the ego, or our own limiting beliefs, making a way for something new within ourselves, pushing us toward our greatest purpose.
literally the same person.
In Hinduism Kali Ma is the Mother, and like any mother worth her title, she will love unconditionally yet meet you with justified rage and fierceness to protect her children, or cosmic order.
We could go down the list of Elevated Spirits and Goddesses we’ve seen go through these image distortions. Chile, don’t get me started on how they do Oshun! There are many paths to her, and they ain’t all gold rings and honey sweetness. That melodious laugh, and gorgeous teeth my be the last thing to witness before she sends that ass to the great beyond, or floods your shit with the very injustice you visit on others. Shoo, if you want to get cussed out real bad, and end up crying in the corner rethinking life, try to square up with Yemoja/Yemaya (The mother of all).
The point i’m making is the divine feminine is RAW! She is wild, just as much as she is holy. Ain’t nothing demure about her, and while there are Divine Feminines throughout history that were on one side over the other, such as Lilith, medusa, Hecate, and Morgan Le Fay, it did not make their purpose any less divine. Although the patriarchal systems in place will have them vilified for demanding balance and equality. The real tea is the DF is light & dark, and you can embody the energy too.
HOW? YOU MAY BE ASKING:
First, it’s understanding that the divine Feminine is an Energy, and it’s in every last person in exsistence, human, animal, and everything in between. Just as Divine Masculine energy is, but i’ll be talking about that later this week.
So the idea that Men being in touch with their feminine side makes them Gay—or whatever toxic shit they like to promote is also an untruth. also dumb because none of this determines your sexuality. There are in fact masculine men that are in tune with their inner divine feminine, which makes them balanced, and are more in tune with spirit than the folks that judge them for it. There are tons of women that are Divine Masculine, and a fat portion of Men on this planet that are divine Feminine. Polarities can change each life time.
So how do you embody it? That’s easy
Get back into nature. Commune with the Earth, plant things, sing to the skies, plants, and animals. Go out there and hug that tree. Earth herself is a Feminine planet, much like Venus. There is a reason why she is referred to as “MOTHER earth”, and primordial goddesses and Spirits such as Tiamat, and Nana Buluku and Erishkigal are so important. Getting your feet in the grass, or going outside to kneel into the earth, offering gratitude and prayers, are all simple things you can do to connect to the DF in you. As a healer this is essential, you’ve got to know your herbs, and in working with them, they can perform miracles, if you treat them with the respect they deserve, as even plants have a consciousness. Ever wonder why some farmers harvest fat ass cabbages and collard greens? they work with nature, from the dirt, to seed, and definitely Water.
Connecting to the Water. This one I did forget to mention in the video, but listen * sigh of bliss* maybe it’s cause I’m a Cancer and the water baby in me is ecstatic to share this, but ain’t nothing like being in, near, around, on top of, and submerged in some water! Water is what powers your intuition, which is why most water signs (myself included) are powerful intuitives, it’s natural for us, and vital when you embody this energy. you have to be willing to trust those nudges or, as the old folks say “Follow your first mind”. Get your butt to the water.
Ocean Water, shower water, lake water—whatever! Water, like earth, is a feminine element, and it is from water all life begins. it is the womb in which we’ve all enter this planet, and allowing it to embrace you, puts you right back in that feeling of being safe, and floating in the arms of the mother. She cleanses, she purifies and even grounds. That being said don’t test her, cause as they say in ATRs “Only a fool makes an enemy of water”. you can start by creating rituals. my personal favorite is speaking positive affirmations into mine, I even let mine sit out in the sun, to let my cells get a good recharge. Take a good ol’ Spiritual bath to maintain your energy from the funkiness of negative forces. or ritualize your bath/shower time, which bring me to--
Self-care. This is especially for the Spiritual folks, if you aren’t taking care of yourself, then you’re not at your best. Prioritizing rest is essential, and finding balance in saving the world, and your energy is crucial in being in your Divine Feminine. I’m not just talking getting your nails done, or a pedicure (Although yes, please take care of your hands and feet) I’m talking about eating nutritiously, minimizing drama, and toxicity in your life. Staying out of bullshit that has nothing to do with you. Ensuring that your mental health is good, and being very selective about where and who you give your time and energy to.
Go out and Play! You read it right, go play! inner child work is big time DF. Shoo, me and “lil’ hush” go to the park at least once a week to play on the swings, and I keep a coloring book on deck. healing your inner child by not only allowing them to come out and play, but also acknowledging that they still exist. This also means addressing the things they’ve endured on the shadow side as well. So play those video games, or pile those leaves up outside and jump in them again. Go rollerskate! Build that snow man. I’m still quite impressed by how residents in Atlanta utilized the fuck out of that snow day, that was the inner child healing that city deserved. Tapping in with your inner child is also the key to awakening and strengthening your magic, without imagination, your intention ain’t going no higher than the ceiling.
Creative Expression. Now this is the one, and goes hand in hand with the inner child work. staying creative, regardless if its writing, dancing, singing, crafts, whatever—and it all doesn’t have to be used to garner income. creativity is your birthright, and who cares if your good at it, if it brings you joy, do that shit! that sacral energy is creation, it is seat of joy and when you ain’t moving it, you’re not vibing. Speaking of sacral energy—
Embracing your sexuality. Regardless if you’re single or with a partner you are supposed to enjoy your carnality! you’re supposed to get wild! ride, bite, scratch, howl and all those other things toxic masculinity and the patriarchal system try to strip you of. Everybody ain’t mother Theresa, and even if you are abstinent, or celibate (for virgins, by true definition) that doesn’t mean that you should hold guilt over your desires. As long as they are within cosmic balance. This is why Diddy, R. Kelly, Drake, and Kanye (to a certain degree) are catching the justified hell they’re catching. Mary Kay Letourneau is getting hers too (research Vili fualaau). Ultimately, you have a divine right to embrace your sensuality and sexuality—hell it’s literally how life is made! This is why i always encourage ladies to take a pole class, erotic dance, or discovering their own bodies so they understand what they like. Not what their potential partner expects, you have to be able to know what your limits are. For anyone coming into your life trying to engineer their desires on you, won’t work. If they try to shame you for wanting it, or getting that shit in an un-lady like way—show them the door. the divine feminine is just as slutty as she is refined, don’t let them tell you any different. Spit, choke, gag, bounce, moan and all that, and you have every right to choose who you give it to.
Understanding you are light and dark. Listen some of us will be Mother Mary, and some of us are Motricia adams, but they key is understanding your shadow side, as much as your light. You cannot say that you are walking into your DF if you have not explored the dark sides of yourself. This doesn’t mean becoming a Sith Empress and knocking the force off balance. but it does mean facing down those parts of you that you keep hidden, like jealousy, or your feelings of self-worth—all the things that you tuck away because they are too painful to deal with. This is why shadow work is important, as well as working with the moon. The moon herself is also feminine, and associated with a number of Goddesses, such as Isis, Sulis Minerva, Saraswati, Lilith (shadow side), Artemis/Diana and of course Hecate. it is in acknowledging and presenting those hidden aspects of ourselves with love that bring about true healing. it’s not about shaming them. But putting a name on those feelings, Fears, habits, and making peace with them. Not sending them away. To Heal and Nurture all parts of ourselves is how you know you’re on the right path.
Ya’ll I could go on but this already got pretty long, and now my energy is screaming for a sandwich and a nap. it’s 4:44pm as i end this, so that’s definietly a sign that i’ve hopefully enlightened your path. To hear more on the topic you can check out my latest video below, and some of these awesome books on the subject, most of which i’ve read myself.
but remember She isn’t quiet, she’s not demure, and she can absolutely end your existence if she needs to.
Love and Blessings,
Hush 👄
